Police led on wild chase by driver in stolen London Transit bus

A woman faces multiple charges, including impaired driving, after a suspect in a stolen London Transit bus led police on a pursuit that ended in a nearby town.

A woman got in the bus parked in a garage at the London Transit Commission building at 450 Highbury Ave. around 3:15 a.m. Saturday, police said.

The woman tried to reverse the bus through a garage door before getting into a second bus parked in the same garage and driving it though another door, police said.

Police were called and found the bus travelling through the downtown area, where the driver ran several red lights and struck a parked vehicle and fence, police said.

Officers followed at a distance while the bus continued southbound on Highbury near Wilton Grove Road, where members of the OPP used a spike belt to deflate the vehicle’s tires, police said.

But the bus didn’t stop and kept heading south until it reached Belmont and ended up in a ditch around 4 a.m. London police officers arrested the driver without incident, police said.

Nobody was injured in the wild ride that caused an estimated $300,000 damage, police said.

A 45-year-old woman is charged with 10 offences, including impaired driving, dangerous driving, break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, mischief over $5,000, driving while prohibited and failure to stop after an accident. She’s scheduled to appear in a London court Monday.
